Inveterate storyteller Paul Thorn credits his gift of gab to being the son of a Pentecostal preacher. "You get to know how to get along with almost everybody. You just have to sit down and start getting to know one another." Thorn has a lot about himself to tell. One would expect to hear great stories from a guy who boxed Roberto "Hands of Stone" Duran on national television, made chairs for a living, skydives for fun, had his first singing gig at age three, and who happens to be one of the South's finest songwriters. Paul Thorn doesn't disappoint.Thorn started down his music path when he was not long out of diapers. "As a child, I sang in churches. My first paying gig was at a revival with my father when everybody came around and put money in my tambourine. After the service, there was a little girl, also about three years old, who I had a crush on. I stuffed the money I got all down in my pockets. After the service we sat around the back of the church and I bought her a Coke with the money I'd earned. That was my first paying gig, and I guess my first date." Thorn writes and performs songs taken from life - good times, bad times, and everything in between. His songs are often constructed on the universal themes of love, loss, and yearning. But far from ever sounding commonplace, Thorn is able to weave in a slightly loopy Southern sense of the unexpected that draws you in and never lets go. It's a concert/party you won't want to miss!

WHAT: YARD DOGS ROAD SHOW
WHERE: NEIGHBORHOOD THEATRE
GA Tickets $12 ADV/$15 DOS (DANCE FLOOR OPEN) Order tickets online: neighborhoodtheatre.com
Showtime: 9pm - Doors: 8pm
The Yard Dogs Road Show is a hobo cabaret, a living patchwork of vaudeville and rock and roll. In the enchanting land of stage show entertainment theirs is both pleasant and formidable terrain. They require a sensitivity to the subtle and the absurd. They lead the modern hobohemian on a visual and sonic journey through part of history that may or may not have existed followed by an ambitious return to the emotional challenges of our punch-drunk contemporary world. Its a true story on stage: sword swallowers, dancing dolls, fire eaters and sunset hobo poetry - all animated by the live sounds of the Yard Dogs cartoon heavy band.
Yard Dogs Road Show is pure visual and sonic voodoo.

Known as southern rock pioneers. their seven gold and three platinum albums have spawned classic hits like Heard It In a Love Song, Fire On The Mountain, Can't You See, and Take The Highway, and their definitive blend of rock, rhythm & blues, jazz, country, and gospel has earned them hit singles on both the Billboard Country and Gospel charts. They continue to be played on classic rock and country radio; and after 30 yrs of touring they can still rock your socks off!
The Marshall Tucker Band consists of Gray, Milner, Lawter, Swanlund, David Muse (formerly of Firefall, on sax, flute, and keys), and drummer B.B. Borden (formerly of Mother's Finest). The band took several stylistic detours with 1998's all-blues outing Face Down in the Blues and the 1999 spiritual album Gospel. A thorough reissue campaign was inaugurated in 2003, and the new studio record Beyond the Horizon appeared one year later. In 2006, the group released a live 1980 concert, Live on Long Island, and another new studio project, The Next Adventure, appeared in 2007.

WHAT: BUILT TO SPILL
WHERE: NEIGHBORHOOD THEATRE
GA Tickets $20/VIP $35 (DANCE/MAIN HALL FLOOR OPEN)

Showtime: 8pm - Doors: 7pm
Built to Spill began in 1993 & became known for finding the middle ground between postmodern, Pavement-style pop and the loose, spacious jamming of Neil Young. From the outset, the band was a vehicle for singer/songwriter/guitarist Doug Martsch, who revived the concept of the indie guitar hero just as Dinosaur Jr.'s J Mascis -- another important influence -- was beginning to fade from the limelight. On record, Martsch the arranger crafts intricate, artfully knotted tangles of guitar; in concert, his rough-edged soloing heroics earned Built to Spill a reputation as an exciting and unpredictable live act. Martsch's compositions are filled with fractured song structures and melodies, often veering abruptly into new sections with little attention to continuity or traditional form. (In fact, the difficulty of Martsch's songs helped force him to abandon his original intention of working with many different lineups, since the twists and turns were difficult to master.) His lyrics have all the loopy wit and pop-culture references of many a '90s slacker icon, but Martsch changes things up with a genuine wistfulness.
