Charlotte Media Mavens Join Amelie's

Charlotte, NC/June 9, 2009 Amelie's a French Bakery is making the most of its daily operating hours. All 24 of them. As the newest members of the management team at the a 24-hour bakery and cafe, Charlotte Observer alum and Twitter diva Crystal Dempsey and event promoter Larken Egleston will be responsible for Amelie's nighttime operations, as well as maximizing the potential of the bakery's expanding location at 2424 N. Davidson St.

"Everyone should know we're open and offer a full menu around-the-clock, but they don't," notes Dempsey who says the duo's immediate goal is to increase awareness of Amelie's as a 24-hour eatery and ensure the continuity of excellent, friendly customer service from day to night.

Dempsey has spent the last 20 years with the Charlotte Observer and is best known for her ten-year stint as the paper's fashion editor. She most recently held the reins at Charlotte Eye and UCity magazines, serving as editor of both Observer publications. Dempsey leads the local Twitteratti, receiving Charlotte magazine's 2009 Best of the Best award as the number one person to follow on Twitter.

"Anyone who knows me or follows my Twitter stream understands how I feel about Amelie's. It's a piece of heaven and has been one of my favorite places since it opened," continues Dempsey. "It's a positive place where new things are tried and created, and I'm getting paid to be part of it."

A fixture on the Charlotte entertainment scene, Egleston's 10-year affair with food and beverage hot spots has landed him roles with Charlotte Eye, Elevate Magazine and Creative Loafing, among others. As founder of the Charlotte Culinary Club, he serves as the unofficial ambassador of dining out in the Queen City, sharing up-to-the-minute restaurant news and coordinating local culinary events.

"Charlotte's auxiliary neighborhoods are filled with character and breathe life into the city. Amelie's is a perfect example," adds Egleston. "Private events, mixers, dance classes, church groups, art shows and showers. They are all welcome at Amelie's. Need to get your staff together in the middle of the night? We are THE place for midnight meetings."
