“An Unbearable Darkness” a painting by Charlotte based artist Osiris Rain has been curated into the permanent collection of the MEAM: Museu Europeu d'Art Modern (The European Museum of Modern Art) in Barcelona, Spain. The MEAM is Europe’s foremost museum dedicated to exhibiting the top living figurative painters and sculptors from around the world.
“An Unbearable Darkness” is a portrait of Osiris’s father whom Osiris credits as sparking his interest in the arts as a child. The painting previously was a semi-finalist at the National Portrait Gallery, BP Portrait Award competition in London. It was also a finalist in the Art Renewal Center’s 2015 International Salon Competition and later included in the pre-selection for the International Figurativas competition hosted by the MEAM before being curated into the MEAM’s permanent collection by Jose Luis Inifiesta, the Fundació de les Arts i els Artistes director.
Osiris Rain is a North Carolina native who lives and works in Charlotte, NC. He was classically trained in Florence, Italy at the Angel Academy of Art and continued his studies in Norway under master painter Odd Nerdrum. His paintings have been exhibited internationally and garnered recognition from numerous institutions worldwide.
Osiris recently launched The North Carolina Academy of Art in early 2015, a small atelier dedicated to teaching Academic Realism. As Director of the academy, he hopes to share his passion for the classical arts and inspire others to delve into the figurative and portraiture world of painting. The school accepts students of all skill levels and is located in NoDa at 3224-B Benard Avenue in the Hart Witzen Annex.
