There is a beautiful partnerhsip going on between UMAR Arts Center, Smelly Cat Coffeehouse & Roasters, and the McGill Rose Garden. The fruits of this can be see at the Smelly Cat Community Garden on the corner of 36th Street and Yadkin.
UMAR Arts Center ("Empowering Adults with Development and Intellectual Disabiities") sets up a booth at Smelly Cat with participant artwork for sale on the 1st and 3rd Friday of every month.
UMAR participants are in charge of maintaining a small flower bed outside Smelly Cat, where you may see very impressive Sun Flowers blooming now! You may spot one of the participant artists watering them in the afternoons. Also, some of their artwork is currently hanging for sale inside Smelly Cat. 40% commission always goes directly to the artist who created the piece, the rest goes into keeping the arts center afloat!
